Reflections of Presidency

Posted on Sun, 29 Jan 2012

2011 Bowls Wiltshire Men's President Mike Hallam, gives his own personal reflections on what was an extreamley successful year.

It was a good year for Bowls Wiltshire (Men) in 2011. The revised system of playing Championship Matches on Mondays and Fridays with the Fours and Triples played earlier in the season and the Pairs and Singles immediately after was started and was welcomed by most players.

The Bowls Wiltshire Website was put on line in May and we are indebted to Wayne Simmonds for all the hard work he has put into this. The Middleton Cup Team progressed to the Quarter Finals but were beaten by Berkshire. At Worthing we had 3 Teams in semi-finals with Mel Biggs in the Singles, Chippenham Town in the Mixed Fours and our Under 25 Team in the White Rose Trophy.

Biggs Up For Local Sportsman Award

Posted on Thu, 19 Jan 2012

Westlecot bowler Mel Biggs has been shortlisted for the Sportsman of the Year Award by local newspaper, The Swindon Advertiser. The nomination comes as no real surprise as Mel had an outstanding season during the summer.

Mel qualified for the National Championship finals in all of the four main disciplines and was only one win away from reaching the final of the National Singles. Winning the singles would have seen him become only the second person to have won all four National titles, having previously already won the pairs, triples and fours, so this was a remarkable achievement.

Please vote for Mel by either phoning 09011510386 or texting ‘AWARDS 0386’ to 80360. Please show your support and hopefully Mel will pick up the award, which he fully deserves.
