International Trials for Wiltshire Bowlers

Bowls Wiltshire is delighted to announce that the following members have been selected for Mens England International trials to be held at Norgren BC, Warwickshire, on the 26th/27th May.

Senior Trial - 27th May - Graham Shadwell (Spencer Moulton)

Junior Trial - 26th May - Michael Richards (Westlecot), Wayne Snook (Holt)

Wiltshire's Amy Rose Bowl and White Rose Trophy Teams for National Championships

Both Wiltshire's Men's and Ladies teams have been selected for their respective Amy Rose and White Rose Championship matches.

After defeating Gloucestershire in the qualifying round, earlier in the season, the Men's under 25's team take on Lincolnshire on Friday 19th August, in the last 16 encounter at Beach House Park Worthing. Since the qualifying match against Gloucestershire, the Wiltshire team have gone un-defeated against Somerset, Cornwall, Devon and Dorset and currently lead the Under 25 South West Counties league. Confidence will be high as the team look to reach a potential quarter final against either Sussex or current White Rose Trophy holders Devon.

South West Counties Teams To Face Bowls Dorset

The Mens Under 25 and Full South West Counties teams, to face Bowls Dorset on Sunday 5th June, have been selected.

Both games mark the start of the 2011 South West Counties League, which will see Wiltshire take on Devon, Cornwall and Somerset in the remaining fixtures throughout the season. Wiltshire will be looking to match their win over Dorset in the first match last season when they cruised to a 41 shot victory at Gillingham B.C. The game will this year be played at Warminster B.C and will commence at 2.00pm.

Downton B.C will host the under 25's game, which will also commence at 2.00pm. The under 25 team will also be looking to produce a similar result to last year's win against the Dorset side.

Win for Wiltshire in White Rose Trophy Thriller

The Men's Under 25's team defeated Gloucestershire in the first round of the National White Rose Championship with a 3 shot victory, which now takes the Wiltshire side to the finals at Worthing in August. In a game which swung both ways, Wiltshire took control in the latter stages and confidently completed the 3 shot victory by 40-37, in a thrilling game at Barnwood B.C.

The first 10 ends saw the Gloucestershire team take control with a 26-15 shot lead, however the 13th end proved to be a pivotal moment in the game.....

Mens Under 25’s Win Season Opener

The Mens Under 25’s team made a solid and confident start to the 2011 season, with a 27 shot victory over Somerset C.B.A, at Amesbury B.C on Sunday. The win will surely give the team a great deal of confidence ahead of the remaining matches during the summer.

Both sides made a bright start to the game with the scores evenly matched at 5 ends; however by the mid way stage in the game Wiltshire had pulled out a 9 shot margin to lead 38-29 at 10 ends. By end 15 Somerset had only scored an extra 9 shots and Wiltshire started to dominate with a 65-38 lead. Despite a few close ends towards the end....

The Ladies Amy Rose team start their season with a 2 rink friendly against Somerset on Sunday May 1st at Amesbury B.C

The team will see the game as a good challenge as they look to start preparing for this year's Amy Rose Bowl National Championship, which starts in August.

Mens Under 25's Trial

There will be a mens under 25's game at Wootton Bassett bowls club on 8th May, starting at 2.00pm, which will be open to all male players in Wiltshire under the age of 25.

The game will be internal, i.e. there will not be any opponents and we will be playing amongst ourselves. It will be used partly as a trial for the first round of the two fours competition, which will be against Gloucestershire and will take place on 22nd May, but it will also be a good opportunity to get as many members of the squad together as possible.

Mens Under 25's team manager Adam Tanner, has the following message to all players.

The team for the Mens Under 25's friendly match against county nieghbours Somerset has been selected. The game will take place at 2.00pm on Sunday 1st May and will be held at Amesbury B.C.

The team, selected by newly appointed Mens Under 25's team manager Adam Tanner, will be looking to start the season with a good performance, and build some confidence to take into the National Two Fours Championship qualifying game against Gloucestershire C.B.A on Sunday 22nd May.

Under 25's Kick Off 2011 Season Against Neighbours Somerset

Bowls Wiltshire Under 25's will kick off the 2011 season with a friendly match against county neighbours Somerset. The game will take place on Sunday 1st May and will be held at Amesbury B.C, with a start time of 2.00pm.

There will be four rinks of Men and two rinks of Ladies, all of whom will all be trying to impress the team managers ahead of the upcoming South Western Counties league matches and county double rink championships this season. With the departure of a number of now ineligable bowlers who have reached the age limit, there will be opportunities for the selection committee's and team managers to give the younger generation of bowlers thier chance to shine at a more competitive level.

The Men's team have been draw against Gloucestershire in the first round of the White Rose Trophy, which will be played.......
